Food and Nutrition

Mealtimes and good food play a central role in our care homes.  Not only do we ensure our residents enjoy a tasty, healthy and varied diet tailored to their needs, but we also provide a mealtime experience that is homely and social. Our seasonal menus change daily, and drinks, snacks and light bites are always available.

We actively encourage our residents to maintain their independence and treat the dining rooms, lounges, café and tearoom as they would their own home. You are free to make yourself a cup of tea or get a snack whenever you like – and you can order food directly from the kitchen.

Come dine with us…

Every day, our talented, professional chefs serve up restaurant-quality food with that home-cooked touch. There is a wide variety of choice, and we serve mostly seasonal and locally sourced food wherever possible.

Afternoon tea is served daily in our café or tearoom where you can enjoy a selection of our famous homemade cakes and traybakes. Dinner is treated as a more social event with music and decorations – our residents often dress up and enjoy the evening with their friends. However, if you prefer, you more than welcome to enjoy your food from the comfort of your own room.

Our menus include pictures of the dishes as well as clear allergen symbols so residents and carers can navigate their choices with ease.

Time for a treat

We know that our residents like a little something special now and then and you just can’t beat a family favourite! We offer a taste of home with our traditional roast dinner, and you can also enjoy a buffet-style Sunday brunch. Variety is the spice of life so get ready for our ‘Armchair Travel’ nights where you can experience food, music, and games from around the world.  We also celebrate special occasions with special mealtimes: Burns Night, Valentines, Easter, Christmas and birthdays, of course.

Getting residents involved

It’s important that you get your say, that’s why we get you involved in designing our menus and in the final taste tests. We meet monthly to chat about your favourite dishes and what you’d like to see on the menu. We get some great requests that keep the chefs on their toes and help bring back memories for those who are on their dementia journey.

Dietary Requirements

Upon arrival, all our new residents meet with the Head Chef to discuss any dietary requirements, allergies, intolerances, and religious needs. It’s also a great opportunity for residents to discuss their likes and dislikes so we can start to build a menu around personal preferences and needs.  Vegetarian options are provided every day for all residents. Halal options and kosher diets are also catered for.

For residents with dysphagia, we use the IDSSI framework to modify the texture of foods. We believe all our residents are entitled to appetising and delicious meals so, wherever possible, we aim to transform the experience of eating soft foods by finding innovative ways of replicating the look and taste of solid foods.
