Raising Awareness and Bringing People Together During Dementia Action Week

Astley View Care Home in Chorley is inviting residents, families, friends and members of the local community to join a special Dementia Action Week event on Saturday 23rd May.

The event has been organised to raise awareness of dementia, encourage conversations about the condition and bring people together through a range of activities designed to inform, engage and connect the local community.

Taking place throughout the afternoon, the event will include a bake sale, doughnut decorating activity and a dementia awareness talk delivered by Lorna from Genesis Care.

Dementia Action Week is a national campaign that encourages greater understanding of dementia and highlights the importance of supporting people living with the condition and those who care for them. At Astley View, creating opportunities for residents, families and the wider community to come together is an important part of life within the home.

The afternoon will begin with a bake sale from 1pm to 2pm, where visitors can enjoy a selection of homemade cakes and sweet treats. Funds raised will support activities and experiences for residents.

From 2pm to 3.30pm, residents, relatives and visitors will have the opportunity to take part in doughnut decorating in the Hampton Dining Room. The activity is open to all ages and provides a fun way for families to spend time together.

Visitors can also attend a dementia awareness talk from 2.30pm to 3.30pm in the Hampton Lounge. Delivered by Lorna from Genesis Care, the session will explore dementia awareness, provide practical information and offer an opportunity to learn more about supporting people living with dementia.
