Residents at Astley View marked VE Day with wartime carrot cake baking, painted pebbles, and a commemorative garden planter.

At Astley View Care Home in Chorley, residents enjoyed a full week of meaningful activities in the lead-up to VE Day. From wartime inspired baking to garden planting and creative art projects, the week honoured the spirit of remembrance.

As part of the celebrations, residents took part in painting decorative pebbles, each one uniquely designed, to be placed in a special British-themed garden planter. The planter, filled with red, white, and blue flowers, now stands proudly in the garden as a lasting tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of the wartime generation.

Residents at Astley View Care Home express their creativity by painting pebbles for a commemorative VE Day garden planter.

Residents baked traditional wartime carrot cake, using authentic recipes that brought back memories for many.

Throughout the week, residents also enjoyed reminiscence sessions, shared stories of life during the 1940s, and listened to music from the era. The celebrations culminated in a relaxing afternoon on the balconies at Astley View, where residents enjoyed refreshments and the lovely spring sunshine.

At Astley View, part of the Evermore Care family, we believe in creating meaningful experiences that enrich daily life. Events like VE Day not only honour the past, but also help residents stay connected, creative and proud of the stories they continue to share.
